He Disgusts Me

Something I’ve been sitting with lately:

I keep hearing from people, often ones I care about, who say they find Trump’s behavior disgusting, but they’ve voted for him twice and would do it again.

Help me understand the reasoning. Because “I don’t like him either” doesn’t tell me anything. What was so important that it outweighed everything else?

I have my own frustrations with Democratic politicians, nobody’s above criticism. But I struggle to understand what the trade-off looked like from your side. The tariffs. The USAID cuts. The attacks on science and public health. The ICE raids and shootings. Threatening and bullying allied nations and openly talking about annexing Canada, Greenland, and Panama. Turning the Justice Department into a personal tool, putting his branding on it, using it to target enemies while protecting allies. Pardoning crypto financiers who happened to be investing in his companies. Taking what sure looks like payment through foreign money flowing into his businesses.

And then there’s the Epstein files. Trump’s DOJ, withheld and removed dozens of pages of FBI interviews related to sexual abuse accusations against Trump himself. Pages that were supposed to be released by law.

What was worth all of that? And where is the line? When will you move from disgust action. Will it be before or after he nationalizes elections, runs for a third term, etc. I’m asking sincerely, because “they’re all bad” feels like an answer designed to end the conversation, not start one.
