Over the last few days multiple large brokerage services have announced they will be charging zero commissions for US listed stocks and ETFs. This is great news for you and me!
Apparently back in the the 1970s or so it would cost almost $40-$50 in commissions to make a single stock trade. Charles Schwab was instrumental in getting that lowered over time towards about $10 where was about 5 years ago. Then the brokerage account Robinhood showed that these services could be provided at $0 per trade. Finally the major brokerages are catching up.
